Engagement Session: Peterborg Point

I love collaborating with friends for photos of special times in their lives like birthdays, weddings, engagements, and more. I recently got the opportunity to photograph a fellow vendor and friend for her engagement shoot. Laysha and Tim are having their wedding at Lindquist Beach, so they chose to have their engagement session at Peterborg Point, which is a beautiful area on the northern-most point of St. Thomas. They wanted to choose a venue that had a different feeling than that of their wedding venue.

Doing an engagement session is valuable for many reasons. It gives you a great idea of poses you’ll want to do on the day of the wedding. It’ll help you get more comfortable being in front of a camera. St. Thomas also provides an amazing background for an engagement session, it also gives you the advantage of having more photos of our beautiful island! Lastly, it also lets you get to know and be more comfortable with your photographer.

Peterborg is a rocky point on the north side of St. Thomas. It’s a beautiful place for St. Thomas photography. It’s a little known spot where you can have weddings and other various events. It’s high atop a cliff with a view of islands such as Hans Lollick and Jost Van Dyke. On very windy days, you even get spray from the ocean. It’s really quite magical!

Laysha chose to have her hair and makeup trial with Sugar and Spice Salon before they did their photos. By doing so, she was able to see how her hair and makeup would hold up in the photos and weather. Being a wedding vendor, she found it tough to relax and be the bride for once.

During the session, I had a hard time getting them to pay any attention to me. They’re so in love, it was like I wasn’t even there. They were also very silly throughout the whole photoshoot, which is fitting, since their wedding is on April Fool’s Day.

Laysha and Tim chose to have their engagement session at sunset. The session started around 5:00PM, which gave us just under an hour of light. The sunset was perfect. She was hoping for wind, and Mother Nature definitely delivered. Her beachy waves and beautiful dress flowed perfectly in the wind.

It was so fun doing their St. Thomas engagement session. I can’t wait to attend their wedding!
